Touch Signals is used with people who are deaf-blind, providing visual and environmental information using various methods of touch on the body. These signals do not interrupt formal spoken or signed communication. Touch SIgnals are discreet and in real-time, allowing the deaf-blind person greater awareness of what is occurring in their surroundings.
Presenters: Rene’ Ryan and Kena Lundy
“Say What?” Often, as interpreters, we focus upon sign expansion since that isn’t the native language for most of us. However, the words we select can make a difference in how our deaf consumer is viewed in the hearing world. Are we doing all we can to reduce barriers and misconceptions… or are we oppressing and limiting them based upon OUR OWN limitations? This workshop will focus on expanding interpreters’ vocabulary so we can do the most professional job possible.
