Rubix cube for blind people

Surely you know of the popular toy, the Rubik’s cube? Well, it just got a redesign for blind and DeafBlind people.

Kristen Sharpless, a graduate student from the University of Massachusetts, had to recreate a game for a blind person. Here’s how she came up with the idea. Sharpless told Mashable.com in a statement, “I had my best friend in mind (she’s not blind, she just loves playing with these things), so I thought I would make it tactile and blindfold her to have her try it out.”

It took Kristen 10 minutes to put it together. The Rubik’s cube has one side with buttons, the other side with Velcro circles, and other assorted parts on the other sides. People on Reddit said that it was a great idea and wanted to make it for their blind friends.

Sharpless is thrilled and touched that the Rubik’s cube she came up with got positive feedback from the blind and DeafBlind communities. It isn’t available in stores, but there is it a product similar to the idea on Rubik’s cube’s website that’s meant for people who are blind. It’s called Rubik’s Touch Cube and it costs $16.99.
