A two-part hybrid course

Part 1 Online - February 27 – March 13, 2018 Online participation required for course completion

Part 2 On-site — March 15-16, 2018 at the Helen Keller National Center in Sands Point, NY

Led by Deaf-Blind Professionals and HKNC Interpreting Staff

CEU information pending

Cost: $300 includes online and onsite training, training materials, and lunch daily.

Participants will gain knowledge, skills, and experience in the following areas:

  • Common etiologies and visual conditions related to deaf-blindness.
  • An understanding of how they can use this information to better meet the needs of their consumers.
  • Communication strategies and accommodations to ensure equal access to for individuals who have a combined vision and hearing loss.
  • Human guide techniques.
  • Technology used in the interpreting process.
  • Deaf-blind culture.
  • The role of the Support Service Provider (SSP).
  • Providing visual and environmental information using various methods, including touch signals.
